Despite the fans’ fondness for Sneha, who played the on-screen wife of Thalapathy Vijay in the film The Greatest of All Time (GOAT), the latest outing by the actress has been receiving huge appreciation from the audiences, now it has come to the forefront that Nayanthara was the first choice for the role.

Nayanthara Was First Choice

Venkat Prabhu, the filmmaker of *The Greatest of All Time (GOAT), recently spoke about the film. He revealed that Nayanthara was his first choice for the role, but things did not work out. He wouldn’t share the specific reasons for this particular decision. “I had thought of casting Nayanthara for the role, but something didn’t work out that time. But the best part is Nayan called me after the film and appreciated my decision to cast Sneha. She even spoke in praise of Sneha’s performance saying that no one other than Sneha could have done justice to the character,” said the director.

In GOAT, Vijay played a field agent and spy with over 65 successful operations to his credit, and he essayed double roles as both father and son. The film has an excellent list of stellar cast including Prashanth, Sneha, Prabhudheva, Vaibhav, Ajmal Ameer, and many more.

According to reports, it has received decent applause in Tamil, but not much in Hindi and Telugu. According to Venkat Prabhu: “I guess GOAT did not go well with the Hindi and Telugu audience because of CSK references. MI and RCB fans troll me all the time just because I am a CSK fan. By blood, I’m a CSK supporter, and there is nothing that I can do about it.”

The director is also planning to bring out a streaming platform exclusive extended, uncut version.

Nayanthara was last seen in the film Annapoorani in 2023, which narrated the story of a conservative woman turning into a chef. The film received major flak with “hurting sentiments” a major issue soon after its release on Netflix.

Then, she would appear in Test along with R Madhavan and Siddharth. She has a slew of other releases coming her way soon like Thani Oruvan 2, Good Bad Ugly and Mookuthi Amman 2. Her husband Vignesh is directing *Love Insurance Kompany with Pradeep Ranganathan.
