Director General of Police R R Swain conducted a comprehensive review of the security arrangements for the newly commissioned railway line between Banihal and Sangaldan in Jammu and Kashmir’s Ramban district.

The 48.1 km long Banihal-Sangaldan stretch is a crucial segment of the Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla Rail Link (USBRL) project, which was inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Jammu on February 20. This section marks a significant milestone in connecting remote areas of the region through a robust railway network.

With the completion of this segment, a substantial portion of the ambitious USBRL project has been realized. Earlier phases of the project, totaling 161 km, were commissioned in phases, including the Qazigund-Baramulla section in October 2009, the Banihal-Qazigund stretch in June 2013, and the Udhampur-Katra line in July 2014.

Officials indicated that the remaining portion of the railway line between Katra and Sangaldan is expected to be completed by May or June of this year, further enhancing connectivity in the region.

Director General of Police (DGP) R R Swain visited the Banihal railway station and subsequently inspected the newly completed railway track. He then chaired a comprehensive review meeting with senior railway and police officials at the Sangaldan railway station.

“I have come to review the security of this national prestigious project,” stated the police chief during the visit. Swain was accompanied by Deputy Commissioner Ramban, Additional Director General of Police Jammu, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Ramban, SSP National Highway Traffic and Railway, and a government railway police officer.

The thorough security review underscores the importance of ensuring the safety and protection of critical infrastructure projects like the Banihal-Sangaldan railway line, contributing to the overall development and connectivity of the region.
