Jaipur, renowned for its association with jewellery, witnessed the grand inauguration of the 21st Jaipur Jewellery Show (JJS), a highly anticipated annual event. The Deputy Chief Minister of Rajasthan, Ms Diya Kumari, graced the occasion as the Chief Guest and highlighted the jewellery industry’s significant contribution to the economy, providing direct employment to 2 lakh people. She emphasised the industry’s role in boosting tourism, attracting global visitors who contribute to “repeat tourism” by purchasing jewellery in Jaipur.
The JJS, themed ‘Emerald…Your Stone Your Story’ is the country’s premier B2B and B2C show, taking place from December 22 to 25 at Novotel Jaipur Convention Center.
Ms Diya Kumari praised JJS for offering opportunities to craftsmen, emerging designers, and young jewellers, suggesting the need to elevate the show’s international presence, similar to the Jaipur Literature Festival. She assured government support for the Gems and jewellery Industry.
Vipul Shah, Chairman of the Gem & Jewellery Export Promotion Council (GJEPC), serving as the Guest of Honour, acknowledged the challenges faced by the industry in 2023 but expressed optimism about its gradual recovery. Initiatives like the diamond bourse in Surat and the upcoming one in Jaipur aim to position India as a key global hub in the sector.
JJS Honorary Secretary, Rajiv Jain, highlighted the event’s growth from 67 booths in 2003 to over 1100 booths this year, including jewelry, gemstones, allied products, and international exhibitors. With 64% designer booths, the show anticipates a massive turnout of 50,000 visitors. The Deputy CM proposed taking JJS to the next level with international exhibitions, aligning with the global success of the jewellery industry.
