India’s prestigious university Jawaharlal Nehru University, famously called JNU, is set to make an addition in their academic offerings. They are going to Constitute three new centres for Hindu, Buddhist and Jain studies.

As per official notification announced on July 9, this addition is set to be a part of the school of sanskrit and Indic Studies.

‘The Executive Council in its meeting held on 29.05.2024 has approved the recommendation of the committee constituted to explore and recommend on NEP-2020 and Indian Knowledge System and its further implementation in the University and establishing of following centres within the School of Sanskrit and Indic Studies.’ announced Friday’s notification.

This decision was made granted approval by JNU’s executive Council on May 29. This decision reflects a significant step taken towards the integration of National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 and enhancing the promotion of Indian Knowledge system within college.

For this, a committee was established to look for the ways to implement NEP 2020 at JNU.

Earlier in a similar move, Delhi university (DU) had constituted a centre for Hindu studies in a previous year.

The DU’s centre currently provides master’s degree and plans to launch undergraduate courses in the coming future.

In addition, Delhi University also has a department dedicated to Buddhist studies and earlier in March, it has acquired govt’s approval to constitute a centre for advanced studies in Buddhism at a cost of 35 crores.
