Traditionally, Indian weddings have always featured a halwai, who would be seen cooking up large quantities of dishes like matar paneer or puris in big cauldrons for wedding guests. Over time, halwais were often replaced by caterers. However, there appears to be a new trend emerging in Indian wedding food — ordering online.
An X user shared a unique experience from an engagement ceremony where the couple opted to order food online instead of using traditional catering services. They posted a photo showing a Swiggy delivery partner unloading plastic boxes of food inside a wedding tent. Susmita, the X user, commented, “They ordered food online for an engagement ceremony?? Bhai I have seen everything,” while sharing the image.

Some wondered if the couple had similarly modernized other aspects of their engagement party.
One user joked, “Trust me inhone barat ke liye ghoda nhi Uber se taxi book karvayi hogi (They must have booked an Uber for the baraat).”
Another quipped, “Puja ki thali inhone phir blinkit se order ki hogi (They ordered the pooja thali from Blinkit).”
A third added humorously, “Inhone apne invitation card pr UPI QR Code bhi lagaya hoga, taki jo na aa paye wo apna Shagun bhej de (They would have put a UPI QR code on their invites so those who couldn’t attend could send their gifts).”
