Delhi Chief Minister Atishi on Tuesday alleged that she was prevented from meeting climate activist Sonam Wangchuk at Bawana Police Station. Wangchuk was detained Monday night at the Singhu border while attempting to enter Delhi with his supporters.

Atishi Criticizes Central Government

Speaking to reporters, Atishi stated, “I came here to meet Sonam Wangchuk, a well-known environmentalist and educationist. He was traveling from Ladakh to Delhi with 150 people to raise their concerns. However, the BJP-led central government arrested him at the Delhi border. The people of Ladakh are demanding democratic rights and don’t want L-G leadership. Although I was allowed inside the police station, I wasn’t permitted to meet him.”

Denied Entry and Heavy Security at Police Station

Earlier reports suggested that Atishi was stopped outside the Bawana Police Station when she arrived at around 1 pm. The Aam Aadmi Party released a statement confirming that police officers blocked her entry. Additionally, a large police presence was observed around the station, which is located on the Delhi-Haryana border.

Detained Supporters Scattered Across Stations

Wangchuk’s supporters, who were also detained, have been taken to various police stations around the Delhi borders. Around 120 people, including Wangchuk, were marching to Delhi to demand sixth schedule status for Ladakh when they were detained. Wangchuk had been leading the ‘Delhi Chalo Padyatra,’ which started in Leh a month ago.
