New Delhi:

Congress Parliamentary Party chajrperson Sonia Gandhi on Thursday joined social media platform Instagram with her first post on ger book titled Belonging: A journey of love.

The former Congress president made the debut on the social media platform with the first few hard copies of her book that was presented to her by the publisher Harper Collins India.

“Hello everyone, I’m truly grateful to share this moment with you all; the first look of Belonging: A Journey of Love. It is a story of love, duty, loss and finding a place to belong. I look forward to sharing it with you,” Sonia Gandhi said in a post, along with a video.

In the video, Sonia Gandhi can be heard saying to the publishers, “You are carrying a very heavy weight.”

“Here,” Sonia Gandhi, with a smile, posed with the 544-page hardback as those around her delivered a solid round of congratulatory claps.

She then sits and turns pages, stops at photographs and smiles.

Browsing through it, Sonia Gandhi, turning the book around, said “lots of pictures, Priyanka” while showing the book to her daughter.

Her account follows three others, son Rahul Gandhi, daughter Priyanka Gandhi Vadra and the Congress party.

Rahul Gandhi has 16.3 million followers, the party 15.9 million, Priyanka 2.9 million. Sonia has never joined X or Facebook. Her own number was going up within hours of the post. At the time of filing this report, her follower count cross 130k on Instagram.

Even Priyanka Gandhi can be seen offering sweets to her mother and the two could be seen hugging.

“One of the most anticipated political memoirs of our time, Belonging is a dramatic and deeply personal story of love, identity, duty and belonging, and offers a rare insider’s view of India’s journey,” HarperCollins, the India publisher of the book, had said in an earlier post.

Earlier, Penguin Random House India backed out from publishing the memoir amid reports that Sonia Gandhi refused “editorial changes” to the manuscript. The publisher though denied any such motive behind the move.
