HYDERABAD: Actress and former MP Vijayashanti resigned from the Congress and would join the BJP on Monday in the presence of national president J.P. Nadda around 11 am in Delhi.
Vijayashanti left for Delhi on Sunday evening and met Amit Shah. The actress who ventured into politics through BJP and later joined TRS is returning back to the party after two decades. She had switched loyalties to Congress in 2014 before formation of Telangana.
In the past few months, the former MP was not active in the Congress party’s activities and programmes in the state. On Saturday, BJP state president Bandi Sanjay confirmed Vijayashanti’s joining the saffron party. Sanjay also left for Delhi on Saturday to meet Nadda and Shah. He will be discussing the result of GHMC election and also to thank Union ministers Prakash Javadekar, Smriti Irani and other leaders for campaigning in Telangana for GHMC election.
The BJP won 48 seats in the recent GHMC elections, giving a tough fight to the ruling TRS. Meanwhile, the Congress only managed to get two seats. A former MP from Congress and a former Congress minister are also getting ready to join the BJP.
