Agriculture Commissioner Kanhaiya Lal Swami said that there is a possibility of damage to crops due to cold waves and frost. Due to which the leaves and flowers of the plants get scorched and fall off. Grains do not form in the pods and ears of plants or they shrink. He said that Rabi crops are most likely to suffer losses due to frost at the time of flowering and earring. At this time, farmers should remain alert and adopt measures to protect their crops.

Measures to protect crops from cold wave and frost

Swami said that 0.1 percent of sulfuric acid is used to protect crops from frost. Also, a solution of one liter of concentrated sulfuric acid in one thousand liters of water should be prepared and sprayed on the crops. Spraying of 0.2 percent solution of soluble sulfur has also been advised. He said that in cash vegetable crops, the crops should be covered with sackcloth, polythene or straw to prevent the soil temperature from falling.

Irrigation of crops during frost days also reduces the effect of frost and for permanent solution to frost, plant dense tall trees on the ridges in the north-west direction of the fields. Due to frost, freezing of water present in the cells of plants causes the cell wall to burst, due to which the leaves, buds, flowers and fruits of the plants get damaged. That is why instructions have been given to all the farmers in the state.
