US Warns: China’s Military, Cyber, And AI Ambitions Threaten Global Order

The United States still considers China its main military and cyber threat, the latest Annual Threat Assessment published by US intelligence agencies on Tuesday says.

The report points to Beijing’s increasing ability to deliver conventional attacks on US territory, disable key infrastructure via cyberattacks, and attack American assets in space. It also mentions China’s desire to overtake the US as the world leader in artificial intelligence by 2030.

China’s Cyber and Military Capabilities

The PLA is moving towards becoming a totally integrated military force that would be able to wage all-encompassing warfare, the assessment finds. The intention is to discourage US meddling in regional wars, spread Beijing’s influence worldwide, and consolidate its territorial holdings.

One of the most important concerns is China’s growing pressure on Taiwan. The report foresees Beijing increasing its coercive measures, especially in reaction to US backing for the island. By 2025, China will press more forcefully for unification, using economic pressure and, if needed, raising its actions if Taiwan seeks formal independence.

Other Global Threats Identified

Outside of China, the report also identifies Russia, Iran, and North Korea as competitors actively seeking to erode US influence. It points out how Moscow’s war in Ukraine has given useful lessons on how to counter Western arms and intelligence in big-power warfare.

The report highlights increasing geopolitical tensions, and China continues to be the primary threat to American national security. The report states that Beijing’s military developments and cyber capabilities will remain major threats in the future.
