China marked the 80th anniversary of the end of World War II, and hosted around two dozen world leaders at a grand military parade in Tiananmen Square on Wednesday. This is the second time that Beijing has held a victory parade, the first one was organized a decade ago.
The 90-minute parade which showcased China’s grand military power and global diplomatic influence, initiated at 9 am. Chinese President Xi Jinping noted that Chinese people ‘firmly stands on the right side of the history and progress of human civilization’, in his opening speech. He added that China is a great nation that fears no violence.

Xi with Putin and Kim
A global moment came as Xi was flanked by Russian President Vladimir Putin and North Korean leader Kim Jong-un at the red carpet. This marks to be the first time that the three leaders whoa re viewed as the enemies of the United States were seen together at an event. US President Donald Trump jokingly asked Xi to give his regards to Putin and Kim as China conspires against the United States.

Military Display
Thousands of soldiers and formations from all PLA branches marched through the square, unveiling advanced systems such as the DF-61 intercontinental missile and JL-3 submarine-launched missile. Drones like the stealthy GJ-11 and long-range rocket launchers also signaled preparation for future warfare. Nuclear-capable missiles, including the DF-31BJ, underscored a focus on deterrence.
World leaders’ Presence
The military parade was attended by 26 leaders, including Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto and Malaysian prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim. Unlike 2015 parade, no foreign troops participated in the parade making it an all-Chinese show.
