China clarified reports of a flu outbreak on Friday, asserting it is safe for foreign visitors to travel to the country.

According to the Chinese foreign ministry, respiratory infections are common during winter, but this year’s cases appear to be less severe.

“Respiratory infections tend to peak during the winter season in the northern hemisphere,” said Mao Ning, the foreign ministry spokesperson. “The diseases appear to be less severe and spread with a smaller scale compared to the previous year,” she added.

Mao further assured, “I can assure you the Chinese government cares about the health of Chinese citizens and foreigners in China. It is safe to travel in China.”

Despite videos on social media showing crowded hospitals, health officials emphasized that such outbreaks occur annually during winter.

India’s Response to Virus Reports in China

India’s National Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) is monitoring respiratory and seasonal influenza cases and coordinating with international agencies regarding reports of the Human Metapneumovirus (HMPV).

“We will continue to monitor the situation closely and validate information and developments accordingly,” a senior official told PTI.
