China has reaffirmed its commitment to working with India to manage bilateral relations with a strategic and long-term vision. During a regular press briefing on Tuesday, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Guo Jiakun made this statement. Notably, his remarks coincided with the 75th anniversary of diplomatic ties between the two nations.
Leaders Exchange Congratulatory Messages
As part of the celebration, top leaders from both countries exchanged congratulatory messages. Guo stated, “Today marks the 75th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and India. President Xi Jinping and Indian President Droupadi Murmu, along with Premier Li Qiang and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, exchanged congratulatory messages.”
Furthermore, he emphasized that China and India, both ancient civilizations and major developing nations, play vital roles in the Global South. Since both countries are undergoing crucial modernization, he stressed the importance of a cooperative approach.
Building Mutual Trust and Cooperation
Guo highlighted that history proves partnership and collaboration benefit both nations. According to him, “Being partners of mutual success and a cooperative pas de deux of the dragon and the elephant is the right choice for both sides.” Additionally, he noted that such cooperation aligns with the core interests of both nations and their citizens.
Moreover, Guo reaffirmed China’s commitment to strengthening ties under the guidance of both countries’ leaders. “China stands ready to work with India to enhance strategic mutual trust, deepen communication, expand cooperation, and maintain peace in border areas,” he said. In light of the 75th anniversary, he urged both nations to seize this opportunity to reinforce diplomatic engagement.
Chinese Ambassador Calls for Stability
Meanwhile, Chinese Ambassador to India, Xu Feihong, echoed these sentiments. He shared Guo’s remarks on X and later expressed optimism about the future of China-India relations.
On Tuesday, Xu attended an event titled “Riding the East Wind, Setting Sail Anew and Opening a New Chapter in China-India Relations.” During the event, he praised India’s Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri for joining the commemoration. “Today, the leaders of China and India exchanged congratulatory messages,” he noted.
In addition, Xu highlighted President Xi Jinping’s call for peaceful coexistence and mutual trust. He also mentioned Prime Minister Modi’s emphasis on the Kazan meeting, which laid the groundwork for stable and predictable relations. “Progress in our bilateral relations will contribute to global stability and a multi-polar world,” Modi stated.
A Forward-Looking Approach
Looking ahead, Xu acknowledged past challenges but expressed confidence in the future. “Over the past 75 years, despite ups and downs, China-India relations have always surged forward like the Yangtze and the Ganges,” he said. Furthermore, he emphasized the importance of learning from the past to shape the future.
As both countries mark this milestone, they aim to deepen cooperation, enhance mutual trust, and maintain regional stability. By working together, they can ensure a strong and peaceful partnership in the years to come.
