n the recent turn of events, former deputy CM and Congress candidate Chandermohan Bishnoi defeated Haryana Assembly Speaker and BJP candidate Gian Chand Gupta by a margin of 1976 votes in Panchkula assembly constituency during the Haryana Assembly Elections, on Tuesday. This would mark Chandermohan’s fifth term as MLA and first term from Panchkula, having served four consecutive terms from Kalka before.
Arch rivals Chandermohan and Gian Chand Gupta gave a close fight as the Congress candidate secured 67253 votes while the BJP candidate secured 65277 votes. It is noteworthy thatin 2019, Gian Chand Gupta defeated Chandermohan by a margin of 5500 votes.
During poll counting, the former Deputy CM was off to strong start as he took the lead in round 1, 2, and 3, by 764, 2084, and 613 votes respectively until the Gupta caught up and took the lead by 902 votes in round 4. The Assembly Speaker then went on to secure steady leads where the margin peaked by 4621 votes in round 10. Chandermohan started slowly catching up to Gupta in round 11 and later reached a momentum where the Congress candidate secured 92 votes lead in round 14. Chandermohan later went on to create a margin and ultimately won the Panchkula segment.
‘I am grateful to God and the people of Panchkula for trusting and electing me as their leader. I promise to work hard and meet the expectations of the residents.’ Said Chandermohan. The newly elected MLA was joined by his son Sidharth Bishnoi, and later by his wife Seema Bishnoi and daughter-in-law Shatakshi Singhania along with office bearers and thousands of party workers and supporters, rejoicing at the victory.
‘We are grateful to receive the blessings of the people. This victory marks the beginning of a long journey. We are going to work hard to fulfil each and every promise we made to the people of Panchkula. We are thankful to each and everyone be it the workers who campaigned for us or the supporters who trusted us to be their leader.’ Said Sidharth Bishnoi.
After the declaration of result, Gian Chand Gupta said ‘I accept the decision of the people but I have been saying this from the start that BJP will go forward and make a government for the third time in Haryana.’
After Chandermohan and Gupta, chartered accountant and AAP candidate Prem Garg secured 3329 votes, INLD-BSP candidate Dr. Kshitij Chaudhary secured 1374 votes, and JJP-ASP candidate Sushil Garg Narwanasecured 1153 votes, other parties secured 168 votes and independent candidates secured 688 votes. 984 votes went to NOTA.
The counting of votes for Panchkula Assembly segment took place in Govt College sector 1, while for Kalka assembly segment, the poll counting took place at Govt College Sector 14.
