Former Indian cricket captain Sourav Ganguly has confirmed that Rajkummar Rao, a noted Bollywood actor, will play the biopic’s titular character. Speaking at a news conference in Bardhaman, West Bengal, on Thursday, Ganguly said: “From what I’ve heard, Rajkummar Rao will play the titular role… yet there are issues with dates, so it will take more than a year to reach screens.”
Career of Sourav Ganguly
The life of this great cricketer, from a tender talent in Kolkata to becoming one of India’s most famous captains, will be covered in the film. Ganguly played 113 Test matches and 311 ODIs for India, scoring 18,575 runs in all formats.
Ganguly led the Indian team to 21 Test wins, the highlight of which was an appearance in the World Cup final 2003. Even after his 2008 retirement, Saurav continued to be a star in Indian cricket by serving on the sports technical committee and the Cricket Advisory Committee with well-known VVS Laxman and Sachin Tendulkar.
Rajkummar Rao in Bollywood
In addition to the above, Rajkummar Rao continues to outshine in Bollywood. Other than the Ganguly biopic, he has ‘Bhool Chuk Maaf’ lined up with Wamiqa Gabbi. The teaser of the film, which has dropped recently, shows Rao’s character caught up in a mysterious time loop concerning wedding functions, thus weaving humor and suspense into the plot.
Directed by Karan Sharma and produced by Maddock Films in association with Amazon MGM Studios, ‘Bhool Chuk Maaf’ promises to be an interesting film. Besides that, Rao is set to appear in Maalik, produced by Kumar Taurani’s Tips Films.
