Blinkit, a popular online grocery app among Indian consumers, has recently introduced a new feature that has delighted many customers, especially moms. The app will now offer complimentary coriander (Dhaniya) with vegetable purchases, a move that reflects the traditional practice of local vegetable vendors in India.
The decision to provide free coriander came after a customer shared on social media about his mother’s surprise at having to pay for coriander while ordering vegetables on the app. Ankit Sawant’s post on X (formerly Twitter) caught the attention of Blinkit’s CEO, Albinder Dhindsa, who promptly responded by assuring that the feature would be implemented.

Following the customer’s suggestion, Blinkit officially launched the ‘free Dhaniya’ feature, thanking Sawant’s mother for the idea. Dhindsa also mentioned that the company would continue to refine the feature based on customer feedback in the coming weeks.
Traditionally, local vegetable vendors in India often include complimentary coriander and green chilies (mirchi) with purchases. However, this practice had not been adopted by online grocery platforms until now, making Blinkit’s move noteworthy.
While Blinkit did not specify the minimum order value or quantity of vegetables required to receive the complimentary coriander, a test order revealed that customers in the Delhi NCR region would need to purchase vegetables worth at least Rs 500 to be eligible for 100 grams of free coriander.
Customers have expressed delight at the new feature, with many praising Blinkit for listening to their concerns and taking swift action. Some customers have even suggested that Blinkit should consider offering other complimentary herbs and vegetables, such as curry leaves and green chilies, in the future.
