BJP slams Congress as ‘New Muslim League’

The BJP reacted sharply to the Congress government’s decision on Thursday to repeal the anti-conversion law brought in by its regime in Karnataka, and dubbed the Mallikarjun Kharge-led outfit as “new Muslim League”.
“Is this ‘Mohabbat Ki Dukaan’ Mr. Rahul Gandhi?” asked senior BJP leader and former Union Minister Basanagouda R. Patil (Yatnal) on Twitter. Chief Minister Siddaramaiah’s “anti-Hindu agenda” is exposed, he said. Do you want Hindus to be wiped out? The Conversion Mafia has influenced Siddaramaiah and his cabinet to withdraw the “Anti Conversion Law,” which was introduced by the BJP, he added.
The Karnataka cabinet, under the leadership of the Congress government, has made the decision to repeal the ‘anti-conversion’ law that was introduced by the previous BJP government. Law and Parliamentary Affairs Minister H K Patil confirmed that the cabinet discussed the matter and approved the bill to repeal the changes made in 2022. The bill is expected to be tabled during the upcoming legislative session starting on 3 July.
C T Ravi, BJP National General Secretary, expressed his criticism of the Congress government’s decision to repeal the anti-conversion law in Karnataka. He accused the “Conversion Mafia” in the state of influencing the Congress party to take this step and claimed that the Congress is aligning itself with the interests of the Muslim community. Ravi further alleged that the Congress is willing to go to any extent to harm the interests of Hindus.
The ‘Karnataka Protection of Right to Freedom of Religion Act,’ commonly known as the anti-conversion law, was enacted in 2022. The purpose of this act is to safeguard the right to freedom of religion and prevent any unlawful conversions that may occur through misrepresentation, force, undue influence, coercion, allurement, or fraudulent methods. The law aims to ensure that individuals have the freedom to choose and practice their religion without any external pressures or deceptive tactics.
