In response to the collapse of a six-storey building that resulted in the tragic deaths of eight residents on October 22, the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) is set to begin surveying and demolishing unauthorized structures throughout the city, starting on October 28. One of the first targets is a five-storey building in Nanjappa Garden, Babusapalya, Hennur, which has been deemed illegal, constructed on just 250 sq ft of land (10 feet wide and 25 feet long).

The BBMP’s action against illegal constructions follows the recent building collapse that took lives in Bengaluru. Starting Monday, they will conduct surveys and demolitions of such buildings.

Pictures of the six-storey structure circulated online, prompting humorous comparisons to the Burj Khalifa, the world’s tallest building. Many social media users praised the architect’s creativity, while others condemned the owner and engineer for violating regulations in their pursuit of profit. One user remarked, “Burj Khalifa ultra pro max. This building should be preserved instead of being demolished.”
