The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) arrested three Railway officials on Friday in connection with the Balasore triple train crash.
According to CBI officials, three railway personnel have been arrested under sections 304 and 201 of the CrPC: Senior Section Engineer Arun Kumar Mohanta, Section Engineer Mohammad Amir Khan, and Technician Pappu Kumar. In its probe, the CBI discovered that the accused railway personnel were also involved in evidence manipulation. The arrested suspects will be brought before the appropriate court, and the CBI will seek detention.
The Railway Board recommended that the Central Bureau of Investigation investigate the accident, and on June 6, the CBI took over the investigation. In this case, the CBI has already filed a First Information Report (FIR). Following the disaster, claims of tampering with the electronic interlocking system prompted the agency to become engaged in the case.
On June 2, a triple train disaster involving the Chennai-bound Coromandel Express, the Howrah-bound Shalimar Express, and a freight train killed 291 people and injured over 1000 more.
