Six people died in Nepal’s earthquake-affected Karnali province due to severe cold weather, as reported by the police on Wednesday. Following the earthquake on 3 November, numerous families still reside in makeshift tents, as their homes were entirely destroyed. Those particularly vulnerable to the harsh conditions include children, new mothers, individuals with chronic illnesses, and the elderly population.
The recent deaths occurred in the West Rukum district of the province on Tuesday, with five casualties in the Aathbiskot Municipality and one in the Sanobheri Rural Municipality. The majority of the deceased were elderly individuals aged between 60 to 80. All six had sought refuge under makeshift tents, given that their homes were rendered uninhabitable by the destructive earthquake earlier in the month.
The Jajarkot and West Rukum districts experienced a 6.4 magnitude earthquake on 3 November, resulting in the death of at least 154 people and leaving thousands homeless. Two weeks prior, five individuals affected by the earthquake lost their lives while sleeping in tents.
