In a heartwarming display of strength and resilience, specially-abled aspiring models walked the ramp at the “Amputee Runway Nepal 2025” in Kathmandu, raising awareness about limb loss and limb differences. Among the standout participants was Prakash Singh Thakuri, a below-the-knee amputee from Nepal’s Karnali region. Despite losing his left leg five years ago in an accident, Thakuri’s passion for fashion and music led him to this moment of triumph, where he proudly posed on the ramp in front of an applauding audience.

Breaking Barriers and Building Confidence

For many, including Thakuri, this event was a dream come true. “I had an interest in fashion and music from a young age, but after losing my leg, I never imagined walking on the ramp. Today, it feels like a dream come true,” said Thakuri. His participation in the event, which coincides with April’s “Limb Loss and Limb Difference Awareness Month,” has been a huge confidence booster.

The runway show featured dozens of differently-abled models showcasing their talents and raising awareness about limb loss and limb differences. The models, donning various designer outfits, posed, smiled, and even blew kisses to the audience as they walked down the ramp, exuding grace and confidence.

A Platform for Inclusion and Awareness

The event was organized by the Nimala Foundation, a non-profit organization focused on disability and rehabilitation. Krishna Budha Chhetri, a member of the organizing board, shared the purpose behind the event: “Amputee Runway Nepal 2025 is organized because April is the month to celebrate limb loss and limb differences. We wanted to create something impactful and decided that a runway show would be a powerful way to highlight these stories.”

Addressing Public Health Crisis

Nepal has a significant population of people who have lost limbs due to accidents and illnesses, such as motor vehicle crashes and diabetes. The event aimed to raise awareness about this public health crisis and offer support to those who may feel isolated or alienated due to their physical challenges.

The theme of the show, “Walking the Runway with Strength, Grace, and Prosthetic Limbs,” emphasized the courage and resilience of individuals who have overcome physical challenges. It was an uplifting reminder that strength comes in many forms and that everyone, regardless of their physical abilities, deserves a platform to express themselves.

Empowering the Differently Abled

“Amputee Runway Nepal 2025” not only showcased fashion but also served as a powerful reminder of the importance of inclusion and empowerment. The event gave the differently-abled models exposure, boosting their morale and challenging societal stereotypes about disability. With the growing shift toward inclusivity in fashion, this runway show marks a step forward in changing perceptions and highlighting the beauty of diversity.
