Jaishankar Congratulates Brunei on Its 41st National Day

External Affairs Minister (EAM) S. Jaishankar congratulated Brunei Darussalam on its 41st National Day, extending his warm wishes to Brunei’s Foreign Minister, Dato Erywan Pehin Yusof.

In a post on X, Jaishankar wrote:

“Congratulate FM Dato Erywan, the Government, and the people of Brunei Darussalam on their 41st National Day. Our partnership continues to progress and prosper.”

Indian Embassy Joins the Celebrations

The Indian Embassy in Brunei shared glimpses of the National Day celebrations, highlighting the presence of His Majesty The Sultan of Brunei. The embassy also conveyed Jaishankar’s message, reaffirming India’s commitment to fostering strong diplomatic relations with Brunei.

Follow-up on PM Modi’s Historic Visit

Jaishankar’s recent discussions with Brunei’s Foreign Minister followed up on the outcomes of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s September 2024 visit to the country. This was the first-ever bilateral visit by an Indian Prime Minister to Brunei, marking 40 years of diplomatic relations between the two nations.

He further stated:

“A warm conversation with Brunei FM Dato Erywan Pehin Yusof this morning. Followed up on PM Narendra Modi’s September 2024 Brunei visit outcomes. Appreciate his insights on the region and support for the India-ASEAN partnership.”

India’s Act East Policy in Focus

Jaishankar emphasized that PM Modi’s visit to Brunei and Singapore was a crucial step in India’s Act East policy, aimed at strengthening economic and strategic ties with Southeast Asian nations.

“Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Brunei and Singapore is a significant step in our Act East policy early in his third term.”

Elevated Partnership Between India and Brunei

During his visit, PM Modi announced the elevation of India-Brunei relations to the level of an Enhanced Partnership, reflecting the growing economic and diplomatic engagement between the two countries.

With a shared vision for regional cooperation, India and Brunei continue to work towards strengthening their relationship under the India-ASEAN framework.
