Apple’s sales in India jumped 33% to a record of almost $8 billion in the year through March, Bloomberg News reported on Monday, citing a source familiar with the matter.

Strong iPhone Sales Drive Growth

iPhones accounted for more than half of Apple’s sales in India, highlighting the popularity of the device in the region. Despite the impressive growth, the company did not immediately respond to a Reuters request for comment.

Increasing Production in India

In April, Bloomberg News reported that Apple assembled $14 billion worth of iPhones in India last fiscal year. This means that about 14% of Apple’s marquee devices are now made in India. Most of these iPhones are produced at the Sriperumbudur plant, which is located about 25 miles west of Tamil Nadu’s state capital, Chennai.

Apple’s increased focus on production and sales in India underscores the country’s growing importance in the company’s global strategy.
