Apple recently unveiled iOS 18 at the WWDC 2024 event and has now shared a list of features designed specifically for Indian iPhone users. This update will bring exciting new options to millions of iPhone users in India later this year. The company has highlighted new Indian fonts, enhanced keyboard language input, and an improved Siri that can understand India’s diverse languages.

Customizable Lock Screen in Indian Languages

The iPhone lock screen is getting more versatile with iOS 18. You can now customize your lock screen and contact posters in 12 Indian languages, including Bangla, Devanagari, Gujarati, Odia, and Telugu. Additionally, iOS 18 allows you to change the font color and personalize your lock screen to suit your preferences.

Enhanced Calling Features

iOS 18 brings several upgrades to the calling experience. Live voicemail transcription will now support Indian English, making it easier to understand voicemails. The update also includes live caller ID and call history search in Indian English, aiming to make the iPhone more appealing to users in India. Moreover, iOS 18 simplifies switching between dual SIM networks directly from the Control Center, allowing users to easily choose their preferred connection.

Multilingual Siri

Siri is becoming more multilingual with support for nine Indian languages and Indian English. Users can ask Siri to set alarms, launch apps, play music, or check the weather using a mix of English and local languages such as Bengali, Gujarati, Hindi, Kannada, Malayalam, Marathi, Punjabi, Tamil, and Telugu. Siri can now also respond in Hindi to Hindi queries, enhancing its usability for Indian users.

New Indian Language Keyboard

The keyboard is getting a significant update with predictive typing for Indian languages, available on iPhone 12 and later models. This feature will work in apps like Messages and Notes. The bilingual keyboard, which supports English and Hindi, will be available on all devices receiving the iOS 18 update.

Indian users can also search for words in their default spelling without changing the style, making it easier for the iPhone to understand commands. This feature is available in Assamese, Bangla, Devanagari, and Gujarati.

Hindi Translation Across Apps

iOS 18 adds support for Hindi in the translate app, which will work in Safari and other apps like Notes. This makes it easier for users to translate content directly within their apps.

Apple’s Focus on India

Apple continued focus on the Indian market is evident with these updates and the recent launch of Apple stores in the country. As iPhone sales grow in India, these new features in iOS 18 are likely to enhance the user experience and meet the needs of the diverse Indian audience. Overall, iOS 18 promises to bring many exciting features for Indian iPhone users, enhancing their experience and making their devices more user-friendly.
