Amit Shah, the union home minister, chaired the meeting on Tuesday to evaluate the status of the cyclone Biparjoy preparations.

Bhupendra Patel, the chief minister of Gujarat, and members of parliament from the cyclone-prone areas also participated virtually in the conference.

According to the India Meteorological Department on Monday, Extremely Severe Cyclonic Storm Biparjoy has diminished into a Very Severe Cyclonic Storm (VSCS).

“ESCS BIPARJOY weakened into VSCS and lay at 2330IST today, about 310km SW of Porbandar, 320km SW of Devbhumi Dwarka, 380km SSW of Jakhau Port. To cross near Jakhau Port (Gujarat) by evening of 15th June as VSCS,” it said.

On Monday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi presided over a high-level meeting to assess how Gujarat and the Centre were prepared to handle any situation brought on by the approaching cyclone.

He gave senior officers the go-ahead to take all feasible precautions to guarantee that residents of susceptible areas are safely evacuated by the state government and to maintain all vital services like power, telecommunications, health, and drinking water.

In the event that damage is done to them, he stated actions should be taken right once to restore these services.

He also instructed that control rooms should be open 24/7 and that animal safety be guaranteed.

For the Gujarati beaches of Saurashtra and Kutch, IMD has issued an Orange alert.
Indian Railways has activated the disaster management room and opened emergency control rooms in a number of Gujarati districts in the aftermath of the cyclone to guarantee smooth rail operation.
