The by-election for the Ambala Lok Sabha seat has been pending since May this year, following the the demise of incumbent BJP MP Ratan Lal Kataria.
With elections slated for next year, discussions about the Ambala by-poll have resumed.
BJP high command recently instructed the party to prepare for Mission 2024.
The by-poll, if held, will signal trends for the parliamentary elections. Biplab Kumar Deb’s meeting with Union Home Minister Amit Shah has also been linked to the possibility of by-elections in Ambala.
The Election Commission of India (ECI) has been discussing by-elections for Ambala, Maharashtra, and Uttar Pradesh.
Hemant Kumar, an advocate in the Punjab and Haryana High Court recently filed an RTI, seeking information related to the four vacant seats. “If the ECI in consultation with the Central Government has however certified it is not possible to conduct Bypolls on aforementioned PCs due to whatever reasons, then such information, if so, too need to be furnished by the CPIO in the ECI,” the letter read.
