The Punjab and Haryana High Court’s decision dealt a major setback to Shiv Kumar and Bhupinder Singh, who sought bail in the Ajnala police station violence case, as their plea has been rejected.

The court explicitly stated that interference and taking the law into one’s own hands using the strength of a mob are entirely unacceptable in the administration of justice. The allegations are grave, and in such circumstances, the plea for bail within eight months of custody is not admissible.

The Ajnala violence incident pertains to an attack on the Ajnala police station by Amritpal Singh and his supporters on February 23. Amritpal Singh was discontented after the arrest of his associate, Lovepreet Singh Toofan, and led an assault on the Ajnala police station along with his supporters. Amidst this altercation with the police, one police superintendent and six officers were injured.”
