Following obituary references, Rajya Sabha was postponed for a brief duration until 12 noon on Thursday, the first day of Parliament’s monsoon session.
The House remembered sitting member Hardwar Dubey as well as former members who died during the inter-session time. The House also observed a moment of silence in memory of its late members.
After the House convened at 11 a.m., Rajya Sabha Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar read the obituary references. Hardwar Dubey, a BJP member from Uttar Pradesh, died last month. He was 75.
Dubey began his political career with the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) and was twice elected as a BJP MLA from Agra Cantonment. In the previous Kalyan Singh government, he was Minister of State for Finance.
He was elected to the Rajya Sabha representing Uttar Pradesh in 2020. He was also in charge of organizational matters. Former members Dawa Lama, Usha Malhotra, and Solipeta Ramachandra Reddy were also honored by the House. The Parliament’s Monsoon Session will run till August 11 with 17 sittings.
