Narendra Modi on Lex Fridman Podcast: PM Talks Trump Assassination Attempt, Praises His Resilience

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, in his conversation with AI scientist and podcaster Lex Fridman, admired the “unshakeable” allegiance of the previous US President Donald Trump for America. Praising his perseverance and determination while pointing to last year’s failed plots to kill Trump, PM Modi complimented him.

Memories from the 2019 Howdy Modi Event

Referring to Trump’s commitment to America, PM Modi remembered the ‘Howdy Modi’ event held in Houston in 2019, where he was addressed by a huge number of people. He explained that Trump’s choosing to sit amongst the audience to listen to him speak was “remarkable” considering that he was the President of the United States.

After his speech, PM Modi also invited Trump to walk around the stadium with him. “In American life, it’s almost impossible for the President to walk into a crowd of thousands. But without even a moment’s hesitation, he agreed and began walking with me. His entire security detail was caught off guard,” the PM explained to Fridman.

Referring to this as a ‘truly touching’ moment, Modi added that it showed the courage of Trump.

‘Strong Bond Between Us’

PM Modi spoke of the trust between them, remembering how Trump walked boldly among thousands of people. “He makes his own decisions, but also, he trusted me and my lead in that moment enough to have walked with me into the crowd. It was that sense of mutual trust, a strong bond between us, that I truly witnessed on that day,” he said.

The prime minister went on to reminisce about Trump’s visit that day, highlighting how he navigated through the crowd ‘without even asking security’, describing it as ‘truly amazing’.
