Star all-rounder and former captain Shakib Al Hasan was notably excluded from Bangladesh’s lineup for the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy, as revealed by the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) on Sunday, January 12. In addition, wicketkeeper-batter Litton Das was also left out of the team for the upcoming tournament, which is scheduled to commence on February 19.
Bangladesh is set to kick off its campaign against India in Dubai on February 20, followed by a game against New Zealand in Rawalpindi on February 24. The team will wrap up its Group A matches against Pakistan on February 27, also in Rawalpindi. The group will be led by Najmul Hossain Shanto, who captained the team that advanced to the semi-finals in the previous edition of the ICC Champions Trophy.
The squad also includes experienced players like Mushfiqur Rahim, Mahmudullah, Mehidy Hasan Miraz, and Mustafizur Rahman, in addition to emerging talents such as Soumya Sarkar, Tanzid Hasan, Tawhid Hridoy, Jaker Ali, and others. The bowling lineup comprises Taskin Ahmed, Parvez Hossain Emon, Nasum Ahmed, Tanzim Hasan Sakib, and Nahid Rana.
Shakib last played in a 50-over match during the 2023 ODI World Cup against Sri Lanka at Delhi’s Arun Jaitley Stadium. He delivered a notable performance, taking two wickets for 57 runs over 10 overs and later scoring 82 runs off 65 balls, with 12 fours and 2 sixes. On the other hand, Litton played his most recent ODI against the West Indies in Basseterre on December 12, 2024, where he did not make any score.
