It was easier to identify fake currency as Mahatma Gandhi’s image and paper quality were the first indicators. However, the counterfeiters have become more skilled and have been producing notes that are becoming more and more indistinguishable from the real currency. This has contributed to the rise in the circulation of fake currency, especially in Bihar.

Bihar Police Headquarters has alerted people about counterfeit currency in the state and also started an awareness campaign to inform the public how to identify a fake note. It has also issued a letter to all the District Magistrates and Superintendents of Police on the ways to identify the fake currency.

Smuggling has unintentionally exposed its operation by a simple spelling mistake on the counterfeits used in Bihar. The Inspector General of Police issued a letter to District Magistrates, Senior Superintendents of Police, Superintendents of Police, and Railway SPs with news of a golden nugget: that the color of fake notes is spelling “Resarve Bank of India” while it should be “Reserve Bank of India.”

Despite how sophisticated the counterfeiters get, there is always a way to identify the fake notes. Another thing that can point out a fake note is its texture; it will certainly feel different from the authentic one. The printing of the fake notes may also look a bit faded. Some apps have become available to help identify fake currency.
