A Russian guided bomb attack in the southeastern Ukrainian city of Zaporizhzhia on Wednesday has left at least 13 dead and 63 others injured, according to local authorities. The strike targeted a residential area, causing widespread devastation. Bodies were found scattered across a road, and public transport, including a tram and bus with passengers, was damaged.
According to Ukraine’s prosecutor general office, the attack caused massive destruction in high-rise apartment blocks and an industrial facility. Emergency services were working tirelessly at the scene where flames and smoke engulfed the area as rescue operations continued.
Regional Governor Ivan Fedorov stated that troops deployed two guided bombs during the attack. There are reports saying that four among those wounded have a grave chance to survive; an official mourning was declared to Thursday.
“The massacre is only evidence of pure inhuman evil – Volodymyr Zelenskyy while strongly rejecting an attack made against the central town in Russian, he pressed their western partners for intensification in putting forth efforts against Russian federation.
The violence did not end there. Regional authorities reported further explosions, including shelling in Stepnohirsk, south of the city, where two people were killed. In addition, Russian air strikes on Kherson, a region partially occupied by Russian forces, resulted in two more deaths and 10 injuries.
These strikes continue to be part of Russia’s air attacks into the Zaporizhzhia region that it has recently annexed as part of other Ukrainian territories with Crimea. These attacks demonstrate further the very pathetic humanitarian situation facing the region.
