The Bhajan Lal government has launched an investigation into over 200 major and contentious decisions and tenders made during the tenure of Ashok Gehlot. A Cabinet Sub-Committee meeting convened on Tuesday to address matters concerning 16 departments for the review of Gehlot’s decisions.
Chaired by Health Minister Gajendra Singh Khinvsar, the committee decided that Ministers and Chief Secretaries of each department would examine Gehlot’s decisions at their respective levels. Following scrutiny at these levels, the Cabinet Sub-Committee will receive the cases for final decisions.
Health Minister Gajendra Singh Khinvsar, the committee’s Chairperson, mentioned that discussions encompassed various departmental issues, covering 16 different cases. Further investigations are planned before final decisions are made. The scrutiny process involves ministers and chief secretaries scrutinizing contentious decisions initially, which will then be submitted to the committee.
Weekly review committee meetings to continue
The committee, responsible for reviewing Gehlot’s decisions, will convene every Tuesday to decide whether to uphold or change the decisions made during Gehlot’s tenure.
Committee to determine the future of local development schemes
The fate of local development schemes announced in Gehlot’s previous budget is also under scrutiny. Recommendations from the committee may lead to the discontinuation or continuation of schemes like free mobile distribution, free ration kits, and free school dress schemes. The free mobile distribution scheme and the free ration kit scheme are currently under review, with potential changes in the structure of the free school dress distribution plan.
Review of all major tenders passed during Gehlot’s rule
An investigation has been initiated into all major tenders across various departments during Gehlot’s rule. Scrutiny is underway for 40 cases related to the Water, Sports, Arts, and PWD departments. Discussions were held on issues related to law, sports, art, and PWD.
Cabinet report to be maintained
The Cabinet Sub-Committee will compile a report on decisions made during the last six months of Gehlot’s rule, focusing on local development schemes. This report, along with recommendations, will be presented to the cabinet. After cabinet approval, final decisions will be made on Gehlot’s schemes, some of which became election issues, with the BJP alleging corruption.
The investigations will also cover tenders and work orders for schemes related to the Water Life Mission, where the Enforcement Directorate (ED) is conducting a separate probe. Local-level contracts are also under scrutiny in this comprehensive review.
