Punjab’s Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government minister Aman Arora still faces legal challenges in the Sangrur district court. His application to retain the ministerial position was filed today, and the court has scheduled the next hearing for both parties on January 24. If relief is not granted by then, Arora may be unable to hoist the flag on Republic Day in Amritsar.
It’s worth noting that Aman Arora was sentenced to a 2-year imprisonment in a case involving assault on his brother-in-law. The lower court in Sangrur had pronounced this sentence.
To prevent the sentence’s execution, he has filed an application in the district court. Simultaneously, a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) against his sentence has been filed in the Punjab and Haryana High Court.
On January 15, the Punjab Governor Banwari Lal Purohit questioned Punjab Government over Aman Arora Ministerial seat and raised question that if the Sangrur court does not stay the sentence, they won’t be allowed to hoist the flag on Republic Day.
