Amit Sharma, the Administrative Secretary of Science and Technology for the Union Territory of Ladakh, emerged as a pivotal figure at the India International Science Festival (IISF) 2023, currently underway in Faridabad, Haryana (NCR Delhi).

The prestigious event has attracted luminaries from all corners of the nation, along with participants from over 20 countries worldwide, including Argentina, South Africa, Singapore, Australia, Zimbabwe, Malaysia, Indonesia, among others. Their collective goal is to deliberate on critical issues shaping the global scientific landscape and strategize for the future.

Amit Sharma, accompanied by Tsering Angchuk, the Deputy Chairman of Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council, Leh, actively engaged in a panel discussion moderated by Dr. Satish K. Agnihotri, an IIT Mumbai alumnus. The discussion, involving delegates from Arunachal Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Gujarat, and Jharkhand, focused on strengthening Science, Technology, and Innovation (STI) ecosystems across different states and Union Territories.

Sharma emphasized the strategic importance of fostering innovation in Ladakh through the establishment of a Biotechnology Park and the development of a mechanism to support start-ups in aromatic plants. His vision aligns with Ladakh’s unique ecosystem, emphasizing the potential for sustainable development in the region.

During the conference, Sharma, along with Deputy Chairman Angchuk, addressed international delegates, highlighting Ladakh’s leadership in carbon neutrality. He also announced the forthcoming launch of hydrogen-fuel buses in Ladakh, a pioneering step that received a standing ovation from international guests.

Secretary Amit Sharma and Deputy Chairman Angchuk were prominently featured in a parallel meeting with Dr. Arvind Sahu and his team from the Regional Centre for Biotechnology (RCB). Discussions focused on Ladakh’s commitment to carbon neutrality, the establishment of biotech parks, promotion of biotechnology start-ups, and seeking support from RCB for these initiatives.

The participation of UT Ladakh at the India International Science Festival 2023, led by Secretary Amit Sharma, not only underscores a commitment to scientific progress but also highlights Ladakh’s dedication to sustainable and innovative solutions. As Ladakh strives towards a future defined by technological excellence, Sharma’s leadership remains a guiding beacon, shaping the path forward.
