Sub Divisional Magistrate of Derabassi, Himanshu Gupta, has taken serious note of news reports regarding the nuisance caused by wet waste from liquor factories in the Samgoli area. He issued a notice under section 133 (1) (b) of the Criminal Procedure Code, instructing local officials of the Punjab Pollution Control Board to submit a reply and action taken report by December 26, 2023.
According to the information, wet waste from liquor and beer factories is being loaded into large vehicles and dumped on roads and fields near the village of Samgoli. This has led to an increase in the number of flies, making it difficult for people to breathe in the polluted environment. Additionally, two government schools are located near the dumping site, posing potential health risks to the students.
In light of these concerns, the Assistant Environmental Engineer at the Punjab Pollution Control Board, Plot no. 55, Phase-2, Mohali, has been directed to submit a personal reply before the Court on 26.12.2023, after taking immediate action to curb pollution.In another case where the public is facing problems due to a damaged road on the Tsimbli-Ranimajra road, a notice under section 133 (1) (b) of the Criminal Procedure Code has been issued to the Executive Engineer of the Punjab Mandi Board.
The office, located at Punjab Mandi Bhawan, Sector 65A, SAS Nagar, is tasked with taking action to make the road motorable and safe for passers-by immediately, and to submit a report to the office.Sub Divisional Magistrate Gupta mentioned that the Mandi Board has already initiated the work, and the road is expected to be made motorable in the next few days.
