The National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), in collaboration with key stakeholders such as the State Disaster Response Force, Civil Defence, Fire Services Department, and Jammu and Kashmir Police, conducted a comprehensive mock exercise focused on floodwater rescue in the district.
The practical demonstration unfolded at a designated pond in Kot Bhalwal, witnessed by Assistant Commissioner (General) Manisha, Assistant Commissioner Development Preeti Sharma, Sub Divisional Magistrates, and various other officers.
Spanning two days, the mock exercise served as a crucial test for the preparedness and coordination of agencies involved in disaster management. A tabletop exercise on floodwater rescue was previously organized in the Deputy Commissioner’s office, chaired by Additional Deputy Commissioner Sandeep Seointra.
Approximately 500 people, including students from Government Higher Secondary School Kot Bhalwal, observed the mock exercise. The NDRF team showcased a range of floodwater rescue techniques and skills, encompassing boat operations, life jacket usage, rope rescue, casualty evacuation, and first aid.
The primary objective of the mock exercise was to enhance the capacity and response capabilities of the district administration and collaborating agencies in the event of a flood. Additionally, it aimed to raise awareness among the public regarding essential do’s and don’ts during flood situations.
Interacting directly with students and the public, the NDRF team addressed queries related to disaster management and distributed informative pamphlets and stickers featuring flood safety tips.
