In the Rajasthan Legislative Assembly elections, several candidates are seen contesting as independents due to not receiving tickets from their respective parties. Among those contesting independently after not getting a party ticket are former Assembly Speaker and Shahpura MLA Kailash Meghwal. Kailash Meghwal is known to be close to the former Chief Minister of Rajasthan, Vasundhara Raje. However, this time, the BJP has given the ticket to Lalaram Bairwa instead of Kailash Meghwal.
Expressing dissatisfaction with this decision, Kailash Meghwal and others from the BJP decided to contest the elections independently. The party had initially requested these candidates to withdraw their nominations. Some candidates withdrew, but many leaders, including veterans, chose not to withdraw. Subsequently, the party adopted a strict stance. Due to this stern approach, the BJP expelled Kailash Meghwal from the primary membership of the party for contesting against the officially announced candidate in the Shahpura constituency. The order in this regard was issued by the Rajasthan BJP’s disciplinary committee chairman, Onkar Singh Lakhawat.
Apart from Kailash Meghwal, other prominent figures expelled by the BJP include Ravi Singh Bhati and Priyanka Choudhary, both of whom are contesting against the official party candidates. Bhati is contesting from Shiv constituency, Priyanka Choudhary from Barmer, and Kailash Meghwal is contesting independently from Shahpura.
In addition, the BJP took strict action on Tuesday by expelling 10 workers from the Sikar district. These workers were involved in activities against the party by contesting against the official BJP candidates in seven constituencies in the Sikar Legislative Assembly. Considering these activities as going against the party’s interests, Rajasthan BJP State President C.P. Joshi expelled them from the primary membership of the party under Article 25(9) of the BJP Constitution based on the recommendation of the BJP State Committee.
