The National Agricultural Cooperative Marketing Federation of India (NAFED), along with the National Consumer Cooperative Federation of India (NCCF), is now distributing inexpensive food items, including chickpeas, in cities such as Jaipur. These counters have been set up in various cities, including Jaipur, Bikaner, Alwar, and Kota. Mahendra Singh Rawat, the State Head of NAFED, mentioned that cheap onions and chickpeas are being sold through mobile van counters. In Jaipur, onions are being sold at the rate of Rs 25 per kilogram, and chickpeas are being sold at the rate of Rs 60 per kilogram at 15 locations.
The Federation is selling onions for Rs 50 to Rs 60 per kilogram.
Due to the decrease in onion production in Maharashtra and other states, wholesalers in the mandi are selling onions to consumers for Rs 50 and Rs 60 per kilogram in cities. NAFED has currently set a maximum purchase limit of 5 kilograms of onions for consumers. However, for chickpeas, consumers only benefit from a price of Rs 5 to Rs 8 per kilogram. In the market, the retail price of chickpeas is currently between Rs 65 and Rs 70 per kilogram, while NAFED is selling them for Rs 60 per kilogram.
