In a coordinated operation, the Jalandhar commissionerate police and the Mumbai crime branch successfully apprehended two fugitive gangsters in a Mumbai hotel on Wednesday.
The apprehended individuals have been identified as Pancham Noor Singh, aged 32, and Himanshu Mata, aged 30, both residents of Jalandhar. They were wanted in connection with a case involving attempted murder and kidnapping, which was filed at Jalandhar’s division number 6 police station on October 13.
Prior to this operation, the Jalandhar police had already apprehended Mukesh Sethi, who is known to have affiliations with Jalandhar West MLA Sheetal Angural.
According to Jalandhar Police Commissioner Kuldeep Singh Chahal, the crime investigation agency acted on a tip-off and collaborated with the Mumbai crime branch. He stated, “A meticulously planned operation was set in motion at a hotel in Vinoba Bhave Nagar, located in the Kurla area, resulting in the successful apprehension of these fugitives.”
Chahal further explained that the accused individuals will be transported to Punjab for further investigation. Both Pancham Noor Singh and Himanshu Mata are facing charges in 15 cases related to attempted murder and kidnapping, in addition to charges under the Arms Act at various Jalandhar police stations. The series of events leading to this operation began on October 13 when the Jalandhar police received information about an individual admitted to a private hospital with severe injuries. A case was subsequently registered against 10 individuals, including Mukesh Sethi, Pancham, and Himanshu, under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code, including Section 307 (attempted murder), Section 365 (kidnapping), and Section 120-b (criminal conspiracy).
It is worth noting that following Mukesh Sethi’s arrest, tensions between AAP’s sole Lok Sabha MP, Sushil Kumar Rinku, and Jalandhar West MLA Sheetal Angural have come to the forefront. Allegedly, Sheetal Angural took to his social media platforms on Sunday to voice his concerns following the arrest of his associate.
