India needed better preparation before WTC final: Rohit

Australia clinched the WTC title in style, defeating India easily in the final. India needed better preparation for the crucial final. Skipper Rohit Sharma remarked that the team should prepare 20–25 days earlier before the red ball cricket.

It meant that they had to miss some Indian Premier League (IPL) matches.

Australia scripted a new history in cricket by becoming the first side in the world to have all the ICC trophies in its cupboard.

This was India’s second consecutive loss in the WTC final, lost to New Zealand in the first edition in 2021.

Former coach of Team India Ravi Shastri said, “Let’s be realistic here. You’re not going to get those 20 days. And if that’s the case, then you’ve got to miss the IPL,” Shastri said.

“So, the choice is yours, and it’s up to the establishment as well. I’m sure the BCCI will review this in the future. If a World Test Championship [final] is going to come after an IPL every time in the month of June, then for that season, if your team qualifies for the final, there should be certain clauses put in place for franchises,” he further added.

Switching from the shortest format to the longest format of the game is really difficult for the players.
