An incident of sacrilege was committed by a sikh youth in the historical Gurdwara Kotwali Sahib located in Morinda. As per the video now going viral on social media, the youth first attacked and slapped the Granthi and later descreated Guru Granth Sahib. Meanwhile, the people present at the spot caught the youth and handed him over to the police.
Shiromani Gurudwara Parbandhak Committee President Harjinder Singh Dhami also took notice of the sacrilege incident at Golewala in Faridkot, and while taking strict notice of the disrespect of Sri Guru Granth Sahib at Gurdwara Kotwali Sahib, Morinda, in Rupnagar district, the Shiromani Gurudwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) President Harjinder Singh Dhami has demanded strict and exemplary action against the person accused of disrespect. “If exemplary punishments are given, no one will have the courage to commit such a heinous crime”, said Harjinder Singh Dhami. The SGPC President said that if there is anger in society against a person caught committing sacrilege, then he or she is often saved by referring to the law, while on the other hand, due to lax action by the police, the accused would come out after some time. “This is a big question for governments, which they cannot avoid”, he said.
Harjinder Singh Dhami said that the incident of disrespect at Morinda is heartbreaking, in which the accused has come and insulted the Guru. “This person should not be spared under any circumstances, and the police administration should set an example by taking strict action. The matter should be seriously investigated so that the forces behind this incident can be brought to light. If the government and the police try to cover up, then this will not be good”, said the SGPC President. He also condemned the incident of scattering the sacred angs (parts) of Gutka Sahib in Golewala village, Faridkot. He said that sacrilege has been committed openly in this incident, the visuals of which have also been caught on CCTV. He said that the accused should not be spared, even if he belongs to any community. He demanded that the people who created a communal atmosphere and hurt the sentiments of Sikhs be strictly questioned so that the main culprits of this phenomenon could be caught. On this, CM Bhagwant Mann tweeted and said that the culprit, Guru, would not be spared at any cost.
