According to the police, an explosion at a firecracker godown here on Monday resulted in seven fatalities and numerous injuries. After the explosion in Vetriyur Viragalur in the Ariyalur district, a sizable fire started at around 10.20 p.m., they added. After learning of the incident, Ariyalur District Collector J Anne Mary Swarna and District Superintendent of Police (SP) K Feroze Khan Abdullah hurried to the scene. According to the police, the injured people were taken urgently to a nearby government hospital where they are receiving care. More details are awaited as a result of the ongoing investigation.
