Under Pradhan Mantri Bharatiya Jan Aushadhi Project, 335 Jan Aushadhi Centers in all 23 districts of Punjab are currently providing a great relief to the people by providing medicines at affordable prices.
Giving this information, an official spokesperson said that till November in the year 2023-24, a total of medicines worth Rs 41.30 crore were sold at MRP through these centers and this resulted in a huge saving of Rs 206 crore 50 lakh to people from different sections of the society. During the same period, 21 new Jan Aushadhi centers have also been opened in the state.
The spokesperson said that at present maximum 78 dispensary centers are running in Ludhiana district while the number of these dispensary centers is 34 in Bathinda and Patiala. 32 Jan Aushadhi centers are functional in Jalandhar district. The spokesperson said that at present 1200 types of medicines and 147 types of surgical instruments are available at these centres. 21 Jan Aushadhi Centers in Amritsar district have sold medicines worth Rs 1 crore 39 lakh during this financial year and the average of purchasing medicines in a month in the district is around Rs 19 lakh 86 thousand. Similarly, 32 centers located in Jalandhar district made purchases worth Rs 1 crore 63 lakh and the monthly average was Rs 23 lakh 40 thousand, while 78 centers in Ludhiana district made purchases worth Rs 3 crore 31 lakh. The monthly average purchase has been Rs 47 lakh 32 thousand rupees.
The spokesperson further said that from the financial year 2020 to October 2023, medicines worth only Rs 17 thousand 761 were purchased from the Jan Aushadhi Center located in Civil Hospital, Amritsar. This purchase was also made in October 2020 and no medicines have been purchased since then.
Similarly, medicines worth Rs 31, 775 were purchased from center located in Civil Hospital, Jalandhar and this purchase was also done in 2020. Jan Aushadhi Kendra located in Civil Hospital, Ludhiana had no sales of medicines since 2020.
