In a proactive measure ahead of the Diwali festival, food safety officers in Ujjain, Madhya Pradesh, seized 300 kg of adulterated Mawa (Khoa) being transported from Ahmedabad, Gujarat, on Friday morning.
The confiscation occurred at Dewas Gate bus stand around 7 AM, following a tip-off regarding the suspicious consignment. District Food Safety Officer Basant Dutt Sharma stated, “We are continuously working to confiscate adulterated items. When I arrived at the bus stand, I identified a suspect and traced him. As soon as the Mawa was unloaded from the bus, we confiscated it.”
The adulterated Mawa was found in ten sacks, each containing 30 kg, intended for sale at lower prices in the local market.
The suspect has been identified as Praveen Jain, a resident of Vidyapati Nagar in Ujjain. Officials noted that Jain does not possess a food license, and no registered shop linked to him has been found in the area. Investigations are underway to determine his distribution network.
Further actions will be taken as the investigation proceeds, according to Sharma.
