2025 Public Holidays Announced: Check Out the Complete List Here!

The central government has released the holiday calendar for central employees for the year 2025. The list includes two types of holidays: Gazetted (Compulsory) Holidays and Restricted (Optional) Holidays.

Gazetted Holidays (Compulsory):

Gazetted holidays are those that are mandatory across all government offices. These include major national days and religious festivals. The central government has announced 17 gazetted holidays for 2025. Employees cannot opt-out of these holidays, and they will be applied uniformly across all government offices.

Restricted Holidays (Optional):

Additionally, the government has issued 34 restricted holidays, which are optional. Employees have the flexibility to choose from these holidays based on their personal preferences, family needs, or specific occasions.

List of Gazetted Holidays (2025):

  • Republic Day – 26 January (Sunday)
  • Holi – 14 March (Friday)
  • Eid-ul-Fitr – 31 March (Monday)
  • Mahaavir Jayanti – 10 April (Thursday)
  • Good Friday – 18 April (Friday)
  • Eid-ul-Zuha (Bakrid) – 7 June (Saturday)
  • Buddha Purnima – 12 May (Monday)
  • Muharram – 6 July (Sunday)
  • Independence Day – 15 August (Friday)
  • Milad-un-Nabi (Eid-e-Milad) – 5 September (Friday)
  • Mahatma Gandhi Jayanti – 2 October (Thursday)
  • Dussehra – 2 October (Thursday)
  • Diwali – 20 October (Monday)
  • Guru Nanak Jayanti – 5 November (Wednesday)
  • Christmas – 25 December (Thursday)

List of Restricted (Optional) Holidays:

Employees can also opt for 12 optional holidays, from which they are allowed to choose 3. These holidays include:

  • An additional day for Dussehra
  • Holi, Janmashtami (Vaishnav), Ram Navami, Maha Shivratri, Ganesh Chaturthi, Makar Sankranti, Rath Yatra, Onam, Pongal, Shree Panchami / Vasant Panchami, Vishu/Vaisakhi/Bhog Bihu/Ugadi/Chaitra Shukladi/Cheti Chand/Gudi Padwa/First Navratra/Karva Chauth
