Many times, voters are unable to find or misplace their voter ID on the day of voting. In such cases, there is no need to worry. As part of the Legislative Assembly Elections 2023, the Election Commission of India has issued voter identity cards to all voters. However, if a voter cannot produce their voter ID, the Election Commission of India has permitted the use of 12 alternative documents.
Chief Election Officer Praveen Gupta explained that voters who are unable to produce their voter ID can use other identification documents. These alternative documents include Aadhar card, MNREGA job card, driver’s license, PAN card, Indian passport, and photo-affixed pension documents, with photo-affixed identity cards issued by the central and state governments, public sector companies, or local bodies. Similarly, photo-affixed passbooks issued by banks or post offices, smart cards issued under the National Population Register (NPR), smart cards issued under the RGI scheme, and health insurance smart cards issued under the Labor Ministry’s scheme can also be used.
Posters displaying the list of these 12 alternative documents have been placed at all polling centres.
