In a significant development, the Assam Police’s Special Task Force (STF) has apprehended the ISIS India chief, Haris Farooqi, and one of his associates, who are among the National Investigation Agency’s most wanted, after illegally crossing into Assam’s Dhubri from neighboring Bangladesh.

According to STF sources, intelligence agencies received information indicating that two ISIS members in India were present in a neighboring country and intended to infiltrate India through the Dhubri Sector to engage in sabotage activities.

Haris Farooqi, also known as Harish Ajmal Faruqi, the leader of ISIS in India, along with his associate Rehan, were apprehended in a significant operation.

A task force led by Inspector General of Police Parthasarathi Mahanta initiated the operation to capture the pair. Based on credible intelligence, the team conducted a search near the international border between India and Bangladesh. The terrorists were successfully apprehended in the Dharmasala area of Dhubri early in the morning after crossing the border.

“They have advanced the agenda of ISIS in India by plotting recruitment, financing terrorism, and orchestrating terror attacks using IEDs at various locations across the country,” stated the police. The authorities mentioned that several cases against them are pending at the NIA, Delhi, ATS, and Lucknow, among other locations.

“The STF, Assam, will transfer the suspects to the NIA for further legal proceedings,” affirmed the police.
