SHAMBHU BORDER: Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee (PPCC) president Sunil Jakhar on Monday said that since the now BJP-led government at Centre has agreed that three farm laws have many flaws, it should scrap them with immediate effect.
Addressing a protest rally at the Shambhu border, Jakhar said that instead of making amendments the Union government must roll back these laws without any further delay. He said that the Centre should reinstate the rights of the state and as per the provisions of the Constitution allow the states to enact the laws on the subjects in the state list. He said that upholding the basic spirit of the Constitution, without any violation with it, was the need of the hour.
He said that in reality the Union government was adamant to implement the laws for benefitting the corporate houses. The PPCC president said that already the rights of states have been squeezed by the Centre due to the monopolistic GST regime. Jakhar said that the permanent solution for the agrarian crisis was easy if the Centre agreed to guarantee MSP to farmers and empower states to formulate laws on agriculture.
He said that in reality BJP was full of hatred for Punjabis due to which the state was being targeted. He said the idea behind implementing these laws was to economically ruin the farmers of Punjab by denying MSP to them. Jakhar said that as no one could become a soldier merely by wearing olive green dress, in the same way no one could become a farmer by posing with crops after landing from a helicopter in elections.
Training his guns on the SAD leadership, he said that the Akalis were hand in glove with BJP for enacting and implementing these laws but now they were doing tantrums of sacrifice. He also targeted the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), saying that the Delhi government has already implemented the bills in Delhi.
