Donald Trump will meet with the Russian President Vladimir Putin on Friday, 15th August.
Ahead of his meeting with Vladimir Putin, Trump has issued a warning towards the Russian leader in connection with the ongoing war in Ukraine. While addressing the media at the Kennedy Centre on Wednesday, Donald Trump answered a reporter and said that Russia would face severe consequences if it decides to continue the war.
While taking questions from the media members present at The Kennedy Centre, a reporter asked Trump, "Will Russia face any consequences if Vladimir Putin does not agree to stop the war after your meeting on Friday?”
The 47th president of the U.S. kept his response short and said, "Yes, they will." When the reporter asked a follow-up, "What will be the consequences, sanctions, tariffs?" He refused to share his plans, saying, "I don't have to say." He ended his response by saying, "There will be severe consequences."
The globally discussed Trump-Putin meeting is all set to take place on 15th August in Alaska. The meeting came as a surprise to everyone and was announced last weekend.
Upon its announcement, the meeting sparked uproar in geopolitics and on social media due to its nature and the concerns it raised. Several EU countries took the time to meet with U.S. officials to ask about Ukraine's involvement in this meeting. They asserted that it should be a non-negotiable and that any talks about Ukraine's future should involve its president, Volodymyr Zelensky.
There has been no confirmation of Ukraine's involvement in the meeting on the 15th.

When asked about Ukraine's involvement in the upcoming meeting between himself and Putin, Trump said that he would pitch a meeting with the three of them following the peace negotiations on Friday.
"If the first one goes okay, we'll have a quick second one. I would like to do it almost immediately, and we'll have a quick second meeting between President Putin, and President Zelensky and myself, if they'd like to have me there," POTUS told reporters.
However, while saying this, the U.S. president emphasised that the second meeting won't take place if the first meeting does not yield the result he wants.
This is after French President Emmanuel Macron shared that Trump is prioritising the Russia-Ukraine ceasefire. In the same virtual meeting involving the European leader, Ukraine’s president shared his analysis of the situation.
He said that this is a “bluff” from the Russian leader, and he is “trying to apply pressure ... on all sectors of the Ukrainian front” to prove his point that he is “capable of occupying all of Ukraine.
According to reports online, the meeting between the two world leaders will take place in the Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson in Anchorage, Alaska.
